Manuscript Evaluations

Is Your Manuscript Ready?
Find Out Before You Commit.

Writing a book is a deeply personal journey. You’ve invested your ideas, your experiences, your creativity, and countless hours into bringing your story to life. But once the manuscript begins to take shape, many authors find themselves asking:

Is my book ready? What still needs work? What should I do next?

Those questions are completely normal, and they’re exactly where experienced publishing guidance can make a difference.

The Xander Press Manuscript Evaluation Service gives authors a thoughtful, professional assessment of their work from publishing experts who understand both the creative process and the realities of today’s publishing landscape.

Whether you’re hoping to work with Xander Press as your hybrid publisher, preparing to approach agents and traditional publishers, or exploring another publishing path, a manuscript evaluation can help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

You’ll gain a better understanding of your manuscript’s strengths, where it may need additional development, and the steps that will help you bring your book closer to publication.

Get a Trusted Perspective,
Before Deciding Your Next Step

Emily Barrosse, founder and publisher of Xander Press, spent more than three decades in traditional publishing before creating the company to help authors tell important stories and navigate the path to publication.

Emily and the team know that every author’s journey is different. Some authors are looking for a publishing partner. Others are preparing to pursue agents, traditional publishers, self-publishing, or another hybrid publishing company.

A manuscript evaluation is designed to meet you wherever you are in that journey.

The goal is simple: to give you honest, encouraging, expert feedback so you can make the best decision for your book.

Is a Manuscript Evaluation Right for You?

This service may be the right next step if you:

  • Have a completed manuscript (or are close to finishing one) and want an experienced publishing professional’s perspective before submitting your work.

  • Are wondering whether your manuscript is ready to share with agents, publishers, or a hybrid publisher.

  • Have received feedback from friends, family, or writing groups but want guidance from someone who understands the publishing process.

  • Feel stuck and aren’t sure what revisions will make the biggest difference.

  • Are early in the writing process and want feedback on your concept, structure, characters, audience, or overall direction.

  • Are writing nonfiction and want help ensuring your ideas are clear, compelling, and positioned for readers.

How Does the Process Work?

Getting thoughtful feedback on your manuscript is a valuable step in any author’s publishing journey.

You’ll submit:

  • An overview or synopsis of your book

  • Three representative chapters (up to 10,000 words total)

Our publishing professionals will review your materials and provide:

  • A summary memo with our editorial assessment of your manuscript’s strengths and opportunities for development

  • Guidance on revisions that can help strengthen your work

  • Recommendations for future content development

  • A line-by-line markup of one chapter (up to 10 pages)

The fee for this service is $500.

For some authors, the next step may be continuing conversations with Xander Press about becoming their publishing partner. For others, the evaluation may help them prepare to pursue an agent, another publisher, or a different publishing path.

Either way, you’ll move forward with a stronger manuscript, a clearer plan, and the confidence that comes from guidance from experienced publishing professionals.
